Last night I had the opportunity to attend the monthly Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership (JPFO) Salon. The question was posed by Alan Korwin, “Is freedom in America too far gone to be saved?”
I shared Ezekiel 22:30 in my answer.
“So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one.” (NKJV)
I like the language in The Message version
“I looked for someone to stand up for me against all this, to repair the defenses of the city, to take a stand for me and stand in the gap to protect this land so I wouldn't have to destroy it.” (MSG)
In America's history,
the pursuit of freedom has been an enduring battle. From the Revolutionary War
to the Civil Rights Movement, countless individuals have risen to the occasion,
standing in the gap to protect and preserve the ideals that define this great
nation. Drawing inspiration from Ezekiel 22:30, let’s look at the profound
message within these words and how they resonate with our ongoing fight for
freedom and liberty in America.
1. The Wall as a Symbol of Protection:
In ancient times, a wall was the epitome of security,
providing defense against external threats. Similarly, America's principles and
values form the walls safeguarding the freedoms we hold dear. Our Constitution
is the wall against those who wish to take our freedoms and liberties away. Just
as a breach in a physical wall could spell disaster, any compromise or erosion
of our fundamental rights could lead to the unraveling of the nation.
2. The Desperate Need for Defenders:
Ezekiel's message highlights the search for someone who
would rise up and protect the land, reinforcing the wall against impending
destruction. In the context of America's fight for freedom, we are called upon
to be those defenders. This is the grassroots! It is our duty to step forward
and confront the challenges that arise, ensuring our liberties are preserved for
generations to come.
3. Holding the Breach: Defending Freedom:
When a breach appears in the wall, defenders rally to the
vulnerable spot, actively engaging with the enemy to hold the line. Similarly,
as Americans, we must stand up against any forces that seek to undermine our
freedom. Whether it is advocating for justice, safeguarding civil liberties, or
championing for the defenseless, we must all actively participate in the fight,
refusing to let our values crumble.
4. The Urgency of Repairing the Gap:
A breach left unattended is a threat to the entire city. Likewise, if we neglect to address the challenges to our freedom, we risk the very fabric of our nation. Repairing the gap requires collective effort and a commitment to upholding the principles that define America. We must come together, bridge our differences, and work towards solutions that strengthen our society and secure our liberties.
Ezekiel's timeless words remind us of the eternal truth that
the fight for freedom requires active participation and unwavering resolve. As
Americans, we inherit a legacy of individuals who stood in the gap, from the
Founding Fathers to modern-day advocates. It is now our turn to carry the
torch, to protect the walls of freedom and ensure they remain intact for future
generations.
Will you be one of the ones who rise to the challenge, the
defenders who step forward in the face of adversity. By actively engaging,
advocating, and preserving our core values, we can build a stronger America,
fortified against the forces that threaten to dismantle our freedoms. Together,
let us stand in the gap and fight for the freedom that defines the American
spirit.
Be good to one another.
