OPEN Letter to the President Elect
Dear President-elect Obama,
First of all, I would like to say congratulations on your being elected as this nation’s next president. Even though I have to admit that I did not vote for you, I sincerely appreciate your message of change. Your humbleness on the night of the election was incredible. Your speech made my eyes sweat.
As a single father of two daughters, I know first hand the demands that two daughters can have on your time. You and I are close in age. My one hope and dream is that my daughters grow up in a better country then I did. And that I would be alive to dance with them at their wedding and see my grandchildren. As a former combat Marine, I know what it is like to fight for freedom first hand. As a former Southern Baptist pastor, I know the spiritual struggle people go through on a daily basis.
I just wanted to say to you Mr. President, that I pledge to you, that I will pray for you on a daily basis. That God gives you His wisdom and His compassion. But also that you have the fortitude to make the tough decisions for your daughters and mine when it comes to the direction of this country for the next four and possibly eight years.
I know you will do whatever you can for this country while serving in the oval office, but I ask you for two things beyond that. Make time for your wife, Michelle. The demands of the job are not as important as she is. Continue to read to your daughters. We fathers are the symbol of a man of who are daughters will look for in a spouse. Hug them always. They need their dad.
My thoughts and prayers are with you as you are transitioning into the White House. My prayers will be with you daily for the next 4 years. With God’s help and guidance, you’ll do fine!
Thank you for your service to my country and stepping out to make it better for our children.
Semper Fidelis.
