Dining with Daddy
- 30% of children younger than 6 living with married parents in 2003 who ate breakfast with their father every day. The corresponding number for children living with unmarried fathers was 41 percent.
- 64% of children younger than 6 living with married parents who ate dinner with their fathers every day. The corresponding number for children living with unmarried fathers was 66 percent.
I was always told that kids should eat with their parents. It is a time to bond. A time to go over the days events and find out what is going on in your kid’s lives and they can find out about yours. The statistics above aren’t that extraordinary in and of themselves. Two-thirds of kids living with unmarried fathers eat supper with them every day. I think that’s great. If I could, I would eat breakfast and supper everyday with my girls. However, that’s out of my hands and not by my choice.
Father’s Day is this coming weekend. If you can, have breakfast with your dad. Share a cup of coffee with him and just talk about whatever. I wish I could with my dad. I will with the girls though.
Have a good night.
