Friday Morning Insight

Originally written 2/23/07

I have a friend in Oregon who is one of the toughest chicks you'd ever want to know. She's been dealing with a lot of shit in her life for years. Not emotional or psycho crap but physical. She called me when I was on my way home from work yesterday in tears. Now let me have a little sidebar here, tears for Marines are not a bad thing. My eyes sweat at times too. But anyway, she had surgery recently and then caught the flu. Hacking and gagging from it tore open her incisions that were healing closed. Ou- mother fu**ing- ch!! But she's a trooper.

I read something she wrote this morning and it got me to thinking. Here's what she wrote:

I guess that would make me the biggest tree hugging, gay loving, animal saving republican Marine you will ever meet. Some say that makes me confused or bi-polar, but I just like to call it well rounded. I guess when it comes down to it I am just a big softy that happens to have a very "intimidating" exterior. I don't know, you be the judge.

One of my son, Ryan's biggest peeve's is closed minded people. You know, we can learn a lot from our kids. We need to accept people at face value if we are to live our life the best we can.

So, Sarah, thanks for the insight this morning and I am hoping you get back on your feet soon so you can hug a few snow covered trees, save a few animals and continue to be your crazy bi-polar, well rounded self.

Ryan, thanks for making me look a little closer at those around me. We are known by the company we keep, aren't we?

And thanks to you for those dimples when you smile. It makes the day a easier to digest when dealing with idiots.

Peace.
